Missing Maps Event for Teens

Missing Maps Event for Teens

Missing Maps Project aims to put "the world's vulnerable communities on the map." After a brief presentation highlighting how Missing Maps works, we, as remote volunteers, will use OpenStreetMap and basic GIS (Geographic Information System) to trace satellite imagery of minimally charted areas.

Our mapping is then used by localized community volunteers to input more area specific information including neighborhood and street names. This information is hugely beneficial to humanitarian organizations such as the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders, for planning purposes during disasters and other crisis events.

This 2 hour event can be counted toward school community involvement and service requirements.

Registration for this event is required and limited to high school aged teens with a Bedford Public Library card.  Please visit our online calendar to sign up.

All registrants need a computer to participate. If you need a computer to attend, please contact the Reference Desk as a limited number are available for use.
