Write Your Own Obituary: A Reflective Writing Workshop

Write Your Own Obituary Workshop

What would it feel like to step outside your life for a moment and see it whole?

In this guided writing workshop, participants will be invited to write their own obituary, not as a prediction or a final statement, but as a reflective exercise in meaning, values, and legacy. Led by an end-of-life doula and death educator, this class offers a thoughtful, grounded approach to exploring how we want to be remembered and what truly matters to us while we are still living.

Through gentle prompts, discussion, and quiet writing time, participants will craft a personal obituary that reflects their values, relationships, and sense of self rather than a list of accomplishments. Sharing is optional, and no prior writing experience is required.

This workshop is appropriate for adults of all ages and is designed to be reflective, supportive, and surprisingly life affirming.

Registration is required as space is limited. Please visit the Library's online calendar to sign up.

Facilitated by Rev. Jessica Johansson, MDiv, CPC, End-of-Life Doula and Death Educator
