Thanks to Our Troops

Fri, 11/07/2014 - 1:39pm -- Miss Luci

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, let us be mindful of our troops overseas, who can't be home with their families for the holidays. During the month of November, the Children's Library will have a work station set up, so that you can make holiday cards to send to our soldiers. A word of cheer and an assurance that they haven't been forgotten can mean a lot. Come on by before December 1st and help us let our military members know how much we all appreciate their bravery, and the sacrifices they make to keep our country strong and free.

Voting Time!

Mon, 11/03/2014 - 12:08pm -- Miss Luci

Read any good picture books lately? Were any of them on the candidate list for the Ladybug Picture Book Award? November isn’t just for political polling…it’s for library voting, as well! Instituted in 2003 by New Hampshire’s Center for the Book, the Ladybug Picture Book Award is uniquely New Hampshire. Each year, kids from age 3 to grade 3 throughout the state are invited to vote for their favorite title, guided by a list of ten recently published books selected by a statewide committee of librarians who specialize in children’s literature.

What a great pumpkin!

Fri, 10/31/2014 - 10:40am -- Miss Luci

We had some very creative entries in our pumpkin contest on October 28...first prize was shared by  Angelina Ballerina and Olivia, with Pippi Longstocking coming in a close second. Zog, an adorable little dragon, placed third. Other excellent entries included Coraline, Jasmine, the witch from the Wizard of Oz, Dumbledore and more.

Pumpkin Contest coming up!

Fri, 10/17/2014 - 10:36am -- Miss Luci

Boo! Halloween is just arond the corner...have you signed up for the Library Pumpkin Contest yet? It's time for your family to get creative and decorate some pumpkins to represent favorite characters from kids' books. You can use real or artificial pumpkins, and enter as many as you wish, using any materials you can conjure up. We will have a big party on Tuesday, October 28th at 4:00pm. Prizes will be awarded, and there'll be lots of cider and munchkins and such. Wear costumes, if you'd like, to add to the fun!

Readers, unite!

Tue, 10/14/2014 - 1:30pm -- Miss Luci

Donovan Curtis, widely acknowledged to be the biggest troublemaker in his school, has just pulled the wildest stunt ever, and it's really run amok. This time things have gotten out of hand, and have caused colossal damage to the school doors and the new gym. He knows he's going to be in an amazing amount of trouble, but the dreaded axe never falls. Instead, his parents receive a letter informing them that Donovan has been selected for entrance into the Academy of Scholastic Distinction, much to the surprise of one and all.

Maddy's Back!

Fri, 10/03/2014 - 10:16am -- Miss Luci

Maddy’s back in town! Our favorite reading retriever will be with us again this fall, every third Thursday of the month. If you enjoy reading, but still feel you need practice to gain confidence reading in class, Paws to Read is the perfect program for you! Gentle Maddy sits by patiently while you read to her…she never passes judgment or makes corrections…she just loves the attention, and the sound of your voice.

All for fall

Tue, 09/02/2014 - 4:41pm -- Miss Luci

Well, the Summer Reading Program is finally at an end...but what a summer we had! There are so many people and organizations  that contributed to our success, we have more people to thank than the recipients of the Academy Awards! A full listing will be posted shortly on our closed circuit TV...please take note, and be as generous in supporting our local merchants as they have been in supporting us!

Playaways

Wed, 08/27/2014 - 12:03pm -- Diane

We have recently added Playaways to our collection and thus far they have  received much praise from parents and children alike. And now that summer is ending Playaways are great for siblings who may be sitting and waiting at a dance studio, sporting event, or a meeting their adult is attending. They are also wonderful for long car rides; each child can listen to his or her own story. From picture books to teens, we have a varied selection. An added bonus is that they come with a book of the same title for reading along. Look for them in our audio book section.

It's Not Over Till It's Over

Tue, 08/12/2014 - 9:09am -- Miss Luci

Well, the Reporting and Craft Labs are closed for the season, but the Sumjmer Reading Program doesn't officially wrap up until August 31st. You can keep on reading and garnering points for your team right up until then. When you decide you are finished, bring your reading chart to the Children's Desk for one final prize and one final gift coupon. Any books you have added will be credited to your team. Only those who turn in a reading log by the deadline will receive  Summer Reading Certificates.
