We are very excited to announce that our Teen Collection will soon be getting a new look! We will be renaming it Middle Grade.
The Teen collection has always been meant for the upper end of the age range that we serve here in the Children’s Room, however the name ‘Teen’ can be misleading. The books, audiobooks, and graphic novels in our Teen collection have always been intended for kids ages 9-12. Renaming the collection to Middle Grade helps clarify the intended audience for these materials.
Let us answer some questions you might have about the renaming!
We have lots to do for ages 0-12 over February vacation from February 22 to 26 and we would love for you to join us! All of our vacation events will be held virtually over Zoom. The link to join each event will be emailed an hour prior to start time to all registered participants.
We’ll start on Monday morning with Bubbly Babies at 10:00. Join Miss Emily for songs, movement, and books that build early literacy skills.
2021 Youth Media Awards
Every year, the American Library Association announces the Youth Media Award winners at their midwinter conference. This year’s conference was held virtually last week and an impressive slate of winners and honors were announced. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners!
We are big fans of previous winners here in the children's room and those of us that haven't read this year's winners are really looking forward to it! Have you read these titles? Let us know what you think!
This year’s winner of the Ladybug Picture Book Award is There are No Bears in This Bakery by Julia Sarcone-Roach!
Each year, New Hampshire students in preschool through third grade vote on their favorite picture book from a list of 10 titles curated by NH librarians.
Join us for Virtual Winter Break Programs Dec 29-30!
This is the final week of our Storywalk- it will be coming down on Monday, November 23.
We are excited to announce that we have a new story on our Storywalk at Bedford Village Common! Come read We Are Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger while you walk around the common. Can you find maple, birch, and hickory leaves like the kids in the book do?
We are so excited to invite you to try our new StoryWalk at the Bedford Village Common!
Pick a nice day, pack a picnic, and head over to the common to take a stroll and enjoy Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litman and James Dean.
As you stroll through the common, you’ll see pages of the story installed next to the path. Page 1 is right after the arch where you enter the common and the story will take you over the bridge, around the gazebo, and back over the bridge to end back near the arch. All pages are numbered so you’ll know where to head next.
There's no doubt about it, helping patrons pick out books is one of our favorite parts of the job. Couple that with the notion that library services are changing with the times and our new Book Bundle Request Form was born. You fill out the form with information to let us know what you're looking for and we'll pull 5 books for you within 2 business days and place them on hold to be picked up via our Lower Level contact-free pickup.
